This is a space to find your way back to yourself, wherever you are, we can begin.
Dr Isabel Avery is a Clinical Psychologist in London, offering a warm, thoughtful space to understand yourself more fully and to find your way through whatever you are carrying.
Grounded in Theory
Isabel holds a BSc in Experimental Psychology and a Master’s in Applied Neuropsychology from the University of Bristol, a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling from the University of Oxford and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hertfordshire..
Shaped by compassion
Integrative and trauma-informed, Isabel's approach adapts to you, not the other way around. Sessions are collaborative, unhurried and led by what matters most to you.
Personal from the start
Isabel understands neurodiversity from the inside, as a person with ADHD and dyslexia and as a psychologist who has spent years supporting those the world doesn't always make room for.
Hello. I’m Isabel.
As a clinical psychologist my therapeutic approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing on compassion-focused therapy, psychodynamic approaches, non-violent communication, IFS, parenting skills and adapted CBT techniques. I have the genuine belief that everyone deserves to feel understood, supported and empowered to live a life that feels authentic to who they are. I am committed to taking a compassionate, individualised approach with each person I meet.
As someone who has ADHD and Dyslexia myself, I bring lived experience to this work. I understand first hand what it’s like to navigate a world that often isn’t designed for how our minds work
What I Can Help With
Whether you are carrying something heavy you can’t quite name, or something you’ve named a thousand times and still can’t put down, this is a space to work through it, honestly, and without judgement.
-
The mind trying to keep you safe, running a little too hot. There are real ways to understand what is happening and to change your relationship with it.
-
Not just sadness – a particular flatness, a loss of colour in things that used to matter. You don't have to wait until things are worse to ask for help.
-
Difficult experiences don't always stay in the past. We work at whatever pace feels genuinely safe for you.
-
Living with a mind that works differently in a world that often doesn't make room for it is tiring. Isabel understands this from the inside as well as the clinical literature.
-
We tend to repeat our earliest patterns until something interrupts them. Therapy creates the space to look at those dynamics honestly and find new ways of being with each other.
-
Not everything that brings people to therapy has a formal name. Sometimes it is simply that the ground has shifted and you need somewhere steady to stand.
-
Grief does not follow a timetable and it does not respond well to being hurried. A space to feel what you feel, for as long as you need.
-
Two people, two histories, one shared life to figure out. Sessions are a space to hear each other more clearly and to find a way forward together.
‘Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there’ - Rumi
